Education Philosophy
I believe that all children are special and unique. Students gradually develop a range of skills and abilities and the role of the educator is to discover and develop these in meaningful learning situations to produce effective contributors to society. Education should allow the natural instincts of creativity and the concept of free thought within learning activities to produce an array of different beliefs, opinions and stand points.
I believe that children learn effectively in a plethora of different environments and it is the role of the teacher to provide access to information in these forms. Children need to feel confident in their learning environment so an initial focus of the teacher would be to build individual relationships with their students, and with their classmates, utilizing inclusive activities, humor and less intimidating social situations to promote involvement. The layout of the classroom would play an important role in creating a welcoming experience with a strong focus on small group work, varying workstations and less reliance on whole class teacher instruction
Technology will have an ever-present impact in my classroom. As new technologies play vital roles in modern society there should be an innovative usage of such systems in the classroom. I believe it is important for children to be confident, literate users of technologies and for them to achieve this they need to be continually exposed to the various platforms and their developments.
Although there will be an emphasis on technology certain traditional skills will not be lost. The development of oral language skills will have specific importance so that children are able to involve themselves in conversations, to respond, to argue and overall learn with their peers and adults so they develop deeper understanding.
The schooling process will be directed by the progress of modern society and also the deficiencies. The classroom will share values of respect, kindness, reward for effort and resilience to reflect current attitudes as well as equipping them with specific skills and abilities to fulfill the requirements of a dynamic workforce. It is my intention to construct a learning experience that not only supports the modern community but also improves it as my students continue on the path of lifelong learning.
